Supplements are everywhere today. For many consumers, the question is no longer whether to take them, but where they can find reliable sources with safe ingredients. Emerging as a leader in Japan’s $1.4 billion (221 billion yen) health supplement market, Hongo is championing the “preventive medicine” approach, with products accessible for all.

Drawing on his experience in youth sports coaching, company CEO Satoshi Murata aims to move beyond the stereotype that protein is only for bodybuilders. “Our NEXT-18 protein contains the nutrients necessary during growth, supporting juniors on their journey to becoming top-level athletes,” he said.

Many of Hongo’s products are inspired by Japan’s renowned “superfoods.” Fucoidan, for instance, is extracted from Okinawan mozuku seaweed, and has shown to be effective in promoting stomach and immune health. Meanwhile, nattokinase, an enzyme extracted from natto fermented beans, is central to the company’s cardiovascular health line. “It is certified by the Japan Nattokinase Association, and contains the highest 10,000 FU concentration available in Japan, the maximum value in human clinical trials,” said Murata. Hongo’s research credentials are seen as key to future success. “The most important factor is integrity,” Murata said.
