A Japanese naval equipment business aims to venture into new international markets by doubling down on customer service and innovative new technologies.
Ushio Reinetsu Co., Ltd. is already a leader in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) for the maritime industry in Japan. Now, it plans to channel that success into growing further overseas sales. The company has invested heavily in personnel, hiring new workers specifically for customer service and after-sales maintenance, and has plans for growing industry collaborations across Asia through increased R&D spending. In addition to its HVAC business, Ushio Reinetsu also manufactures elevators for seagoing vessels and fireproofing materials for clients both onshore and at sea.
Working in an industry that provides the backbone for global trade, President Shigeharu Oda believes it is vital to build on the company’s existing bases in China and South Korea by diversifying its business portfolio. “Globalization is inevitable. We want to set our sights on new targets, especially in Southeast Asia. We are looking at finding local partners to get a foot in the door in this region,” said Oda.
